Our Fort Worth Staycation

Our 10 year anniversary crept up on us this year. Normally, we would plan an extravagant vacation but being well into my third trimester and that whole global pandemic that still is a travel concern, we opted to stay here in Fort Worth. We’re honestly not very familiar with the hotel options here in town. We moved here and almost immediately had a child, meaning hotel stays weren’t really on our radar. Visit Fort Worth helped us navigate the perfect spot for us and set us up with a stay at The Kimpton Harper downtown.

We arrived Friday afternoon and explored the hotel a little. The lobby is on the top floor along with their in-house bar, Refinery 714. It felt like the perfect place to check in and grab a drink before heading to your room.

After relaxing for a bit, we got ready for drinks and appetizers at Il Modo, the restaurant on the ground floor of The Kimpton Harper. In a room separated from the main area, they have pasta being made and drying. We were told that they’re working on getting some pasta making classes for private parties or events which I think is such a fun idea! Keep your eyes peeled for that blast of a date night activity!

We had dinner reservations, so we couldn’t stay as long as we realized we had wanted to, but what we did try was so good. Both Kyle and I made a note to come back to Il Modo for a date night. We walked just a couple blocks to Branch & Bird and enjoyed drinks, dinner, and a beautiful sunset. Branch & Bird is located on the Sky Lobby Level of the Frost Tower and overlooks downtown Fort Worth. It wasn’t loud which allowed us to sit back and reflect on 10 years of marriage, have some drinks and just enjoy our time together while watching the sun set.

After dinner, we came back to the hotel and crashed.

We woke up the next morning feeling relaxed. We opted not to make reservations for brunch because honestly, we thought we’d be conditioned to wake up early since we have little ones toddling into our bedroom every morning (much too early in my opinion). So we fully expected to still wake up around 6:30AM but hey, turns out, we slept in! We put ourselves together and grabbed coffee nearby at Vaquero. This is actually one of my favorite coffee stops in town, it’s just a bit far for me to drive and work around parking to hit up on a regular basis (or at least as much as I really want to). They are a solid local business and I can’t ever get enough of their Horchata Latte. Iced or warm, this is one of my favorite coffee drinks.

After coffee, we landed at The Bearded Lady in the South Main Village. We loved our breakfast and on top of the meal, the environment was a real 10/10 because there was a Pride Market Crawl throughout the day that set up right outside. So, we finished breakfast and then walked around doing some shopping with LGBTQ+ friendly vendors.

After we checked out the vendors for the Pride Crawl Market and made some fun purchases, we stopped by Stir Crazy Baked Goods on Magnolia to pick up some sweets. We love their desserts so it was an easy decision.

We wandered around town for a bit before showing up to milk + honey spa in Clearfork. This is already our normal go-to spa but it felt extra special this time. Pampering isn’t always the top priority at this point in pregnancy, so it felt nice to lay back for a prenatal massage. Afterward, we stopped by Kate Weiser Chocolate, located next door to milk + honey to pick up some chocolates to bring home. Then we headed home just in time for the kids’ bedtime routines, making this the perfect quick getaway. With so many things within our own city that we love, we didn’t have to go far!
