My Favorite Local Tattoo Artists

Looking for a little piece of art to add to your body? There are a ton of DFW artists to choose from when considering a tattoo. No matter your idea, reason, or preference, there’s a style and an artist for you.

When you’ve chosen an artist and are looking to book, check the artist’s Instagram bio. Most will give specific details on how to book, sometimes including a highlight reel on directions or a link to a request form. Often, you need to wait until the artist “opens up their books.” This is the equivalent to “taking appointments.” (Tip: if you want to make sure you don’t miss a post or an announcement of a cancellation you could scoot into, turn on posting notifications for static posts and stories.) When your artist announces their books are open, be ready to send them your tattoo idea based on their personal preference of communication. This usually includes photos for inspiration and a clear idea of where you’d like the piece on your own body.

Before I jump into this list, it should be noted that these are artists that all have styles that I love. These are artists I’ve had my eye on. Some of them I’ve had work done by and others I’m hoping to jump onto their books, but as always, keep in mind that these are art styles that fall within my personal taste.

Tony and Amanda Maxwell / @tats_and_snacks

Located at Dark Age Tattoo Studio in Fort Worth, Tony does exceptional work in watercolor styles. His watercolor florals are impeccable and he’s the artist I actually chose to help work on my back.

Kasha Burrows / @foragertattoo

Kasha travels between Northwest Arkansas and DFW, so keep an eye on their location when planning a tattoo. You’ll find their work on Jessica Irvin and other locals. Excellent line work and an emphasis on inclusivity.

Leah Luten / @rootin.tootin.leah.luten

Leah has been someone I’ve had my eye on for a while and I cannot wait to one day book with her. She works well with color in small, often delicate designs. She works closely with Keith (@asparagusnightmare) and books up fast.

Keith / @asparagusnightmare

Keith works alongside Leah (@rootin.tootin.leah.luten) and operates out of North Fort Worth. He does exceptional work in a variety of styles and has no trouble with details. His books also book up fast, so make sure you have notifications on.

Brieana Jade / @mothertattooer

Briena is the artist who did the peach on my arm. She’s wonderful and now works out of Dallas. She specializes in a traditional tattoo style with lots of color and spirit.

Sabrina Lakhaysy / @sabrinalkhysytattoo

Sabrina operates out of Dark Age Tattoo Studio in Fort Worth and currently focuses on black and white. She can handle a variety of styles and details. Her pattern work and handling complex designs really stands out.

Dre Li / @dre.dayli

Dre is someone I’ve been wanting to work with for a while. I’ve heard nothing but incredible things and have multiple friends who wear her art. I am on her books soon and am so excited about it! She works in black and white and does delicate, stunning work. Right now she is prioritizing pet portraits and floral pieces (but I was able to get in with neither of those being what I’m having done). Dre works out of Dallas at Electric Feels Studio and from what I’ve heard makes you feel right at home.

Pinky Farrelly / @pnky_farrelly

Pinky works out of Elevated Tattoo And Piercing in Aledo and does excellent work in a variety of styles.

Kristal Tarron / @kristaltattoos

Kristal’s work has been on my radar for a while. I love the depth of her florals and bright colors. She also does some incredible cover up work, so if you need help with a piece, she is worth reaching out to. She works out of TnT Tattoo Company in Haltom City in a studio she co-owns. I just can’t get over her work!

Claire Hecko / @rabbitmoontattoo

Claire is here in Fort Worth working out of Panther City Tattoos. She specializes in a traditional style with lots of color and lots of personality.
